NextGen Home TV with Host Ty Pennington Features Yingli Solar Panels

Ty Pennington is no stranger to home building, and along with NextGen Home TV (, he’s working on a new “First to the Future Home” that showcases sustainable, long-lasting building techniques and materials including clean solar power from Yingli.

Pennington, who is best known for shows such as Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, hosts NGHTV’s “First to the Future Home” series that takes a detailed look at the process of building a beautiful and highly sustainable home. Pennington has already covered a wide variety of topics, everything from pouring a foundation for the home to the energy efficiency of windows and doors and storm resistance, in the online series running through 2015.

“It’s not like we’re burning fuel, our power is literally just from the sun – pretty awesome stuff!” says Pennington.

Yingli worked with SolarCity to install the 5 kilowatt solar system at the “First to the Future Home” in sunny Palm Coast, Florida, featured in Episode 25 of the TV series. Solar power is a key element in the overall sustainability of any home or business because without clean electricity, even the most energy efficient technologies will utilize polluting fossil fuel power. In fact, Yingli’s solar panels at the “First to the Future Home” will help prevent over 175,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere – the equivalent CO2 that more than 7,500 trees would sequester.*

In 2014, Yingli provided solar panels for the NextGen model home at the International Builders Show (IBS), the largest building and construction conference in North America. The IBS model home served as a precursor to Pennnington’s “First to the Future Home” by showcasing state-of-the-art sustainable and green building techniques in a module-style home construction. Both the IBS home and First to the Future home were designed by the award winning Martin Architectural Group within their Green Studio, a LEED accredited and NAHB Certified Green group committed to exploring sustainable, yet affordable solutions to the built environment.
